KOCHI, APRIL 23. Thirty-four candidates have filed their nomination papers from the Ernakulam and Muvattupuzha constituencies for the May 10 Lok Sabha elections, with 17 fresh nominations being received at the district election office on Friday, the last day for filing nominations. Of the fresh set of nomination papers received today, four were for Ernakulam and 13 were for Muvattupuzha. With this, 12 nominations have been received for Ernakulam and 22 for Moovattupuzha. It was also a day out for namesakes of the leading candidates from the Muvattupuzha constituency on Friday. The Revenue Minister, K. M. Mani, and his son, Jose Mani's namesakes, both independents, were among those who filed their nomination papers on Friday to contest from the Muvattupuzha Lok Sabha constituency. Among the other candidates who filed their nomination papers for the Muvattupuzha constituency on Friday were Santhosh Padmanabhan, Paediekkal Thomas Chacko, Mohammed Ismail, Ismail Aboobacker, K. M. Mani, Jose Mani, Ismail Hassan Kani, Jose Joseph, Johny Mani, P. John, Thomas Chacko, Ismail Koya and Rajashekharan Nair. Those who filed their nomination papers for the Ernakulam constituency on Friday were K. M. Hamsa of the Janata Dal (United), Mini Rajeev, T. E. Thomas and Thankappan Chathan.
Election Observer replaced
Meanwhile, Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy has taken charge as the Election Observer (Expenditure) from Friday in place of Archana Nigam. Mr. Reddy is camping at the Ernakulam Guest House, information from the district election office said today.
Scrutiny
The nomination papers that have been received for the Lok Sabha constituencies of Ernakulam and Muvattupuzha will be scrutinised at the Collector's chamber in Kakkanad on Saturday. The scrutiny of papers for Ernakulam will begin at 11 a. m. and those for Muvattupuzha will begin at 11.30 a. m., said a press communication here today. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is April 26.
