COIMBATORE, APRIL 23. A culture college is proposed to be constructed on the land owned by the Karivaradarajaperumal Temple, Vadavalli, a "sub-temple" of Subramaniaswami Temple, Marudhamalai, according to official sources. The land measuring 11.27 acres is estimated at Rs. 6.5 crores and the market value could be more than Rs. 11 crores. "The college is proposed to be constructed with funds from the Subramaniaswami Temple, Marudhamalai," they said. The college would mainly cater to the economically weaker sections and would focus on imparting culture. The institution would be similar to the Pazhaniandavar College of Art and Culture associated with the Palaniandavar Temple, Palani. The syllabi would include Indological studies (study on Veda and Hindu Mythology) and sculpture studies. "We are working on the budget for the proposal. There are plans to include the students studying in the Marudamalai Devasthanam Higher Secondary School, which is run by the temple for the past 20 years," sources added.
