Basketball
BANGALORE, APRIL 24. Indiranagar Basket Ball Club (IBBC) had a reputation to keep. Being the nursery of state or at least city basketball, the club looked like making its exit from the State sub- junior (under-13) basketball championship in its first outing. But a late revival and some inspired play by Skanda and Akshay with Shravan and Ravi chipping in, saw it snatch a 32-29 victory over Greens, Davangere at the Sree Kanteerava stadium courts here on Saturday evening. Greens coached by Veeresh, a former state player, began on a promising note with Sachin doing the bulk of the scoring. A 15-7 halftime lead looked handy and the trend continued till the end of the third quarter. But in the fourth, IBBC coach Anthony managed to motivate his players who rallied brilliantly to turn the tables. Trailing 26-29 in the last minute, Shravan twice managed to find the hoop to snatch the lead and with seconds to go Akshay converted to put the issue beyond the Davangere side. Earlier, holders Jayanagar SC (JSC) romped into the quarters with a 57-4 win over Nationals, Mysore while Bharath Sports Union looked equally adept in its 35-17 victory over Devanga Union. Dharwad's Rovers BC showed refreshing approach in its 45-10 defeat of PPC with the lanky Bharath and the skilful Ajay in fine nick. Vijayanagar (Hospet) scored a convincing 29-8 win over Rajmahal and will clash with JSC in the quarters.
