BANGALORE, APRIL 24. These physically challenged girls in JP Nagar will remember Saturday for long as they were treated to a day full of fun, games, and a sumptuous lunch, all in the company of 150 of the staff members and directors of Lucent Technologies. The physically challenged girls of Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled were selected this year by the staff and management of Lucent Technologies to spend the Global Day of Caring, conceived by the company 10 years ago to emphasise its commitment to the community around it. Lucent volunteers collect donations in cash and kind from the employees to be donated to a selected cause. They take the caring concept further by visiting institutions for the underprivileged, according to Chitra Singhal, director of Lucent Technologies. The Samarthanam trust has been working for six years to help the physically challenged, especially the visually impaired.
