Dindigul
By Our Staff Reporter
DINDIGUL, APRIL 25. Over 2000 road workers from all over the State today took out a rally here, pressing various demands. The rallym started from the Dindigul panchayat union office, reached a marriage hall, venue of the State-level Road Workers Association conference, after passing through prime roads. The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president, G.K. Vasan, who was on his election tour in the district, joined the agitation of the road workers and addressed a massive gathering. Describing the BJP and the AIADMK regimes as "anti-people" Governments, he said Ms. Jayalalithaa had sacked road workers and noon meal staff and "harassed" government employees. He appealed that the road workers should lay a strong foundation all over the State for the victory of the Democratic Progressive Alliance in the State. Mr. Vasan predicted a change in Government at the Centre and the State after the elections. The DPA would fight for the welfare of the people even after the elections, he added. Earlier, the Congress leader, S.R. Balasubramaniam, in his election campaign, said that sacking of the noon meal staff and the road workers was Ms. Jayalalithaa's only "achievement" in her tenure. The people should teach a fitting lesson to her. Earlier, Mr. Vasan commenced his election campaign at Clock Tower here and proceeded to Vedasanthur and Palani to address meetings.
