HASSAN, APRIL 25. The stage is set for holding elections to the Legislative Assembly and the Lok Sabha in Hassan district on Monday. As many as 12,91,753 voters in the Hassan Lok Sabha Constituency comprising eight Assembly segments will exercise their franchise. All the 57 candidates who are in the fray are approaching people personally by undertaking door-to-door campaigns and seeking their votes. Of the 1,507 polling booths in the Hassan Lok Sabha Constituency, 535 have been declared hypersensitive and 520 sensitive. According to the Superintendent of Police, Panduranga H. Rane, nearly 6,000 policemen have been deployed to ensure peaceful elections in the district. Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Mr. Rane said that in view of the recent clashes in Holenarsipur and Gandsi Assembly segments, additional forces had been deployed. As many as 105 mobile parties had been kept ready to face any eventuality, he said and added that to assure people of their safety and security, flag marches would be conducted on Sunday at all the taluk places. Two companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), 10 platoons of the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), and 12 platoons of the District Armed Reserve had been deployed to ensure peaceful elections, Mr. Rane said.
