Klitschko avenges brother's defeat

Los Angeles: Vitali Klitschko was crowned the new World heavyweight champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC) after defeating Corrie Sanders with a technical knockout in the eighth round on Saturday.

Ukraine-born Klitschko convincingly defeated Sanders, who knocked out his brother Wladimir (in picture with Vitali), stopping Sanders late in the eighth round on Saturday to win the title vacated by the retirement of Lennox Lewis.

Fighting in the same ring where he made a name for himself last year by going six brutal rounds with Lewis, Klitschko landed more than half the punches he threw in a fight that grew increasingly lopsided as the rounds went on.

Wladimir stared unblinkingly at Sanders while the fighters were introduced, and was the first in the ring to embrace his brother when the fight was called to an end in the eighth round, with Sanders helpless along the ropes.
