Naidu criticises Congress campaign

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, APRIL 25. The Telugu Desam president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, has said the campaign by his party was carried out on positive lines in spite of various constraints whereas the show by the Congress was "negative''and "lacked credibility.''

The Congress tried to vitiate the minds of people by raising fears that, in the event of the TDP's re-election, there would be immediate power tariff hike, privatisation of Singareni Collieries, Vijayawada Thermal Power Station and APSRTC, poor prospects in agriculture, reduction in the age of Government staff and the dearness allowance of pensioners and shrinkage of jobs, Mr. Naidu told a news conference here on Sunday. He lashed out at the Congress for "trying to convert politics into a business venture.'' Its leaders gave ticket only to wealthy sections to earn money for themselves and also ensure that the candidates could influence voters with money. Earlier, it used to be excise contractors but now it was NRIs and real estate sharks who were accommodated by the Congress.
