BANGALORE, APRIL 25. IBC boys and girls were shown the door by lesser-known rivals Durgans (Chitradurga) and V.N. Sports Club respectively in the State sub-junior basketball championship at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium courts here on Sunday. Rovers (Dharwad), for the second day in running, displayed pluck and precision in good measure. While its boys' team downed Young Friends Basketball Club (YFBC) (Kolar) 31-23, the girls' team too looked equally emphatic in its 25-11 win over Bangalore Sporting. The Dharwad girls led by Smitha and Trishna took a handy 12-3 lead in the first quarter and though Bangalore Sporting did make a fight of it in the second, Rovers looked a trifle too good in all departments. Bangalore Sporting outscored its rival in the second at 8-5 but the 11 points it managed before the halftime was all it could get on the boards, while Rovers added two and six points in the third and fourth quarters to make it a comfortable margin (25-11). In a low-scoring match, IBBC boys went down by a slender margin against Chitradurga's Durgans at 9-11. Though IBC led at half time, Durgans outsmart it in the second half.
Girls: V.N. Sports Club 19 (Prerna 7, Anupama 4) bt IBC 11 (Ramya 4). Rovers (Dharwad) 25 (Smitha 5, Trishna 4) bt Bangalore Sporting 11 (Shamlee 4); Mounts Club 11 (Ishavati 6) bt Vijayanagar (Hospet) 7 (Netra 4); YMMA w/o BCYA; BCBC w/o Belgaum.
