TDP asks EC to debar YSR

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, APRIL 25. The Telugu Desam Party has urged the Election Commission to debar the Congress leader, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, from contesting the elections for allegedly violating the model code of conduct by campaigning till well past midnight in Anantapur district.

At a press conference here on Sunday, the party spokesperson, A.V. Subramanyam (AVS), and the party leader, M. Muralimohan, said that despite over a dozen complaints lodged by the TDP, the EC was not taking action against those violating the code.

In what was very clearly a regret against the `inaction' of the EC, Mr. AVS said the party had sent reminders to the EC, but there was no response yet. When presspersons persisted with questions if the TDP was peeved over the `inaction' of the EC, he said, "We have no comments to make. We are only saying that the EC has not reacted at all to any of complaints in the last two days,'' said Mr. AVS.

They also alleged that Congress leaders were only resorting to threats and blackmailing techniques, saying that when the Congress formed the Government, it would "take care of those officials who helped the TDP." He said C.C. Reddy of the Visu Group of companies was among those who had issued such statements.
