Thrissur
By Our Staff Reporter
THRISSUR, APRIL 25. The Chief Minister, A. K. Antony, has said that a renewed term for the NDA Government could spell disaster for the country. Speaking at a reception accorded to the `Navodhana Yatra' at the Thekkinkad Maidan here this evening, Mr. Antony alleged that the BJP was following the policy of the British Raj - divide and rule. ``The BJP's tone is gradually changing and the country would be in dire straits if the party wins. The Congress, which is committed to secular ideals, should be brought to power for the unity and integrity of the country,'' Mr. Antony said. He claimed that the policies of the UDF Government had led to massive development in the education, tourism, trade, IT and industry sectors. ``We have allowed private agencies to start educational institutions even as we protected and promoted Government colleges. Two medical colleges have been set up in Thrissur.'' Mr. Antony urged party workers to forget all differences and fight for the UDF victory. ``It is nice to see P. P. George, K. P. Viswanathan, MLAs, and the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) treasurer, C. N. Balakrishnan, working together for the party's triumph. This is the beginning of a new era in the party,'' Mr. Antony said. The Cooperation Minister, M. V. Raghavan, the Minister for Water Resources, T. M. Jacob, the UDF candidate in the Thrissur constituency, A. C. Jose, Therambil Ramakrishnan, Mr. K. P. Viswanathan, T. V. Chandramohan, MLAs, Mr. C. N. Balakrishnan, the former Thrissur Mayor, Jose Kattukkaran, and Deputy Mayor, P. S. Johny, were present on the occasion. Earlier, addressing a gathering at Thripayar, the Chief Minister said that the UDF Government would give priority to coastal development.
