DINDIGUL, APRIL 25. Southern Railway, Chennai, retained the Cauvery Ammal Memorial Trophy 12th State-level basketball tournament defeating Tuticorin Port Trust 57-40 at Government Higher Secondary School court, Vadamadurai, near here, on Saturday night. Though Southern Railway and Port Trust registered two wins and a loss each in the semifinal round robin league, the win against Port Trust clinched the issue in favour of Southern Railway. The winner collected a cash award of Rs 7,000, besides the trophy, while Port Trust got a purse of Rs 5,000 and the R.S. Kothandaraman Memorial Trophy. Armed Police, Chennai defeated Hindustan Basketball, Chennai 76-70 to finish third. Armed Police got Rs 3,000 and Centwin Trophy while Hindustan Club won Nellai Trophy and a cash prize of Rs 2,000. E. N. Palanichamy, Managing Director, Sri Mookambiga & CAV Mills and President, Cauvery Ammal Basketball Association, gave away the prizes.
Special awards: Ezhilarasan (MRC, Wellington), Bharathi (Armed Police), Vinodh (Port Trust) and Mohan Raj (Hindustan BC); disciplined team: Breeze BC.
