Light shower possible

CHENNAI, APRIL 25. A light shower can occur in some areas on Monday. Otherwise, the sky will remain cloudy and the maximum temperature will be around 35 to 36 degrees Celsius.

On Sunday, the maximum temperature at Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam was 34.8 and 33.8 degrees Celsius respectively, while the minimum was 26.9 and 27.8 degrees Celsius. Meenambakkam had 16 mm of rainfall. The humidity level stood at 64 and 74 per cent respectively.

Power cut

Power supply will be suspended in parts of S.K. Nagar, Porur, Pantheon Road, Tondiarpet and Tirumangalam on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for maintenance work.

Health camp

At a free health camp organised by the Hindu Mission Hospital at Venpakkam in Padappai on Sunday, 170 people were treated for various ailments.

Temple cleaning

About 50 volunteers of SMILE (Selfless Movement Improving Life Everywhere) cleaned the Chenna Kesava Perumal temple and the Malleeswharar temple at Park Town, said a press release.

Book released

People's Forum for Human Rights has released a book on how to file a complaint, a first information report and apply for bail. The book, which has been complied by Then. Pandian, convener of the forum, explains how a police station maintains records.

The book is seen as a way to educate people on the campaign for custodial justice and abolition of torture. People's Union for Civil Liberties State head Niraimathi released the book and G.P. Sarathi of Tamil Nadu National Congress Party received the first copy.

Book on temples

A book on Hindu temples in Australia was released recently at Madras University. The book is based on research done by A. Kandaiah, who visited the temples. R. Krishnamurthy, Editor of Dinamalar, received the first copy. K. Rajaram, former Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Assembly, also spoke. Dr. Kandaiah donated money for updating the Tamil dictionary, taken up by the Department of Tamil in Madras University. The University Grants Commission is funding the project, which is expected to cost Rs.1crore.
