Around The City

Drop in humidity

Gannavaram Airport recorded a maximum temperature of 37.3 degree Celsius and a minimum of 23.1 degree Celsius on Sunday. Humidity, which was recorded 61 per cent in the morning dropped to 45 per cent in the evening.

BJP candidate criticised

The former city Mayor and senior Congress leader, Jandhyala Shankar, has deplored the alleged efforts of the BJP candidate from Vijayawada East Assembly constituency, Y. Jaganmohan Raju, to seek votes from the Brahmin community in the name of caste and asking them to vote against L. Rajagopal, the Congress Vijayawada Lok Sabha candidate. Mr. Rajagopal, according to Dr. Shankar, was a broad-minded individual with high principles and he had many Brahmin friends and advisors. In an oblique reference to the BJP candidate, he said they could serve the community better if they spend more time in helping poor Brahmins, instead of indulging in mudslinging.

Code violation

alleged

Prayaga Hari Sastry, an Independent candidate from Vijayawada East Assembly constituency, has alleged that the TDP nominee for the Vijayawada Lok Sabha seat, Chalasani Aswani Dutt, violated the model code of conduct by continuing his campaign after the stipulated time. Mr Sastry said that Mr. Dutt who participated in the annual meeting of the Brahmin Seva Sangh on Saturday night along with the BJP candidate from Vijayawada East Assembly constituency "sought the votes of the community in favour of the TDP-BJP alliance."
