VISAKHAPATNAM APRIL 25. The Secretary, Ministry of Shipping, D.T. Joseph, visited the dock area and the Ore Handling Complex (OHC) of Vizag port on Sunday. According to the official spokesperson of Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT), Mr. Joseph inspected all cargo handling operations in progress and the witnessed the performance of the newly acquired 20-tonne capacity wharf crane at EQ-7. The VPT Chairman, K.R. Kishore, informed the Shipping Secretary that the crane was acquired from Finland and that it worked with a lift of 28 metres and working radius of nine to 32 metres. At the OHC, Mr. Joseph inspected the working of the plant and appreciated its performance of handling more than 10 million tonnes of iron ore last fiscal. He described VPT as an `eco-friendly port'. Mr. Joseph was in the city in connection with a meeting on `image building and role and functions of chief public relation officers and PROs in major ports'.
