Crime Watch

10 suffer burns

Ten members of a marriage party of Nalgonda district sustained burns when the lorry in which they were travelling came in contact with high tension power lines near Dachupalli village in Manchal mandal on the city outskirts on Sunday. The injured were shifted to the Osmania General Hospital.

Case against cable operator

The Jubilee Hills police registered a case under Section 8 of the Cable Television Network Regulation Act-1995 against a cable operator of M/s Satya Vision for allegedly not airing Doordarshan channel. This follows a complaint by K. Anandaiah, a resident of Road No. 72, that the operator had not been airing the channel despite collecting an amount of Rs. 300 per month towards cable charges.

Succumbs to burns

An employee of Sanjeevareddynagar Food World shop, I. Kumar (35), who sustained burns while trying to rescue his wife, Shyamala (25), after she accidentally caught fire while preparing food on April 20, succumbed at the Gandhi hospital on Sunday. His wife died while undergoing treatment on April 21.

Dies after being hit by lightning

A labourer, A. Yadagiri (30), was killed when he was struck by lightning in the early hours of Sunday at Jawaharnagar of Shamirpet mandal on the city outskirts.

Dowry case registered

The Musheerabad police on Sunday arrested V. Nagaraju (26) of Bapujinagar on the charge of harassing his wife, Anitha, for additional dowry, which allegedly forced her to commit suicide. Anitha ended her life on April 23. Based on a complaint by her father, S. Venkatesh Goud, the police booked a case.

Sets self ablaze

A 13-year-old girl, Jabeema Begum, of Warasiguda set herself ablaze on April 24. The Chilakalaguda police said that the victim resorted to the extreme step after getting `D' grade in her eighth class annual examination.

Two relieved of ornaments

Two women -- L. Sarojini of West Marredpally and Vijaya Laxmi of Chudibazar -- lost their gold ornaments when unidentified persons took away their jewellery by diverting their attention on Saturday.

While Sarojini was relieved of her `mangalasutrams', Laxmi was relieved of her `chandraharam' and a ring.
