Accident sparks tiff, three shot dead

NEW DELHI APRIL 25: Three men were gunned down in a clash between two groups following a tiff over a minor issue at Shahdara in North-East Delhi today. The incident took place around 10.15 p.m. when an argument ensued between two young men following a minor accident. One of them went back to his place and came with his accomplices carrying firearms. They opened fire at the other party which apparently fired back in retaliation. Three men sustained bullet injuries and were declared brought dead when taken to hospital. They have been identified as Shekhar, 24, Bhimsen, 45 and Monu, 13.

Bangladeshi national arrested

NEW DELHI APRIL 25. A raid conducted by the Special Staff sleuths of South Delhi police turned dramatic when the Bangladeshi criminal they were looking for started throwing bricks on them and shouted to get help from his neighbours at Taimur Nagar in South Delhi today. The accused also opened fire at the police, but was finally overpowered.

The incident occurred around noon when on a tip-off that Dulal, who was wanted in several robbery cases reported from different parts of the Capital, was in his Taimur Nagar house, a Special Staff team arrived there. The police were about to enter the house when Dulal started throwing bricks at them from the first floor.

He screamed for help upon which area residents, most of them suspected to be Bangladeshi nationals, gathered outside his house to prevent the police team from arresting him. Meanwhile, Dulal took out a firearm and opened fire at the police. However, no one was hurt. Realising that the situation might go out of control, the Special Staff alerted the Police Control Room (PCR). Soon, the local police and several PCR vans reached the spot and surrounded the area. Dulal finally surrendered.

Car stereo thefts rising

NEW DELHI APRIL 25.

Even as car-stereo thieves have of late created panic in the Pitampura area of North-West Delhi in the past few weeks, residents alleged that the police were not taking much interest in these cases.

In one case, the thieves broke the window of a Santro car and stole a stereo worth Rs. 50,000 in broad daylight from SU Block Pitampura a few days ago. The car was parked near the owner's house when the incident occurred. The victim alleged that several other people in the area had lost their car-stereos in the same manner. The aggrieved resident alleged that in the past fortnight, at least two vehicles had been stolen from Pitampura. While area residents complained of rampant incidents of theft, they alleged that the police were not conducting proper patrol exercises, nor were they showing interest in catching the culprits.
