NEW DELHI, APRIL 25. In a gruesome road accident, nine unidentified people were crushed to death when the loaded container of a rashly driven trolley fell on the pavement where they were sleeping near Nigam Bodh Ghat in North Delhi in the wee hours today. The driver has been arrested. Around 1-15 a.m., a police patrol team taking rounds of the Nigam Bodh Ghat area noticed several men trapped under the container that had fallen from the trolley. Upon checking, the police personnel found that nine men were completely crushed under the container. The injured were rushed to Jaya Prakash Narain Hospital where they were declared dead on arrival. The police have arrested the trolley driver, Shambhu, a resident of Bihar, and registered a case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving. Initial investigations revealed that the container carrying yarn to be transported to a Tughlaqabad Extension factory fell from the trolley when Shambhu was negotiating a turn near Nigam Bodh Ghat. Meanwhile, efforts are on to identify the deceased, as no one has so far contacted the police to claim their bodies. From their appearance, they appear to be daily wage labourers. Further probe into the matter is on.
