Two held for Preet Vihar double murder

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, APRIL 25. Two persons allegedly involved in the double murder case, in which a 31-year-old housewife and her five-year-old son were found killed in their Preet Vihar residence on April 22, have been arrested by the East Delhi police. A sizable amount of valuables missing from their house has been recovered at their instance.

On the fateful day, the police received a complaint from Shishir Tiwari, an engineer with CEAT Tyres, alleging that his wife, Bindu, and son, Om, had been murdered. He returned from work around 9-30 p.m. and found the house locked from outside. After a vigorous search for his wife and son, Shishir and one of his neighbours broke the lock and entered the house to discover their bodies.

Enquiries revealed that a person, Neeraj alias Bablu, a regular visitor to Shishir's residence, had been spotted near his house around 4 p.m. While the police lifted around nine fingerprints from the spot, they launched a hunt for the suspect, a resident of Etawah in Uttar Pradesh. The police brought his parents to the Capital and obtained his photographs. They came to know that Neeraj worked in some moulding machine factory at Vishwas Nagar.

Subsequently, the police questioned over 50 factory owners and came to know that he had been spotted near Bhikam Singh Colony in North-East Delhi recently. The police circulated his photographs to different police stations surrounding that area and finally managed to trace and arrest Neeraj. During interrogation, he confessed to having committed the murders along with his accomplice, Ashok, with an intention to rob them of the valuables.

As he was a regular visitor to Shishir's house, he had fair idea about where he and his wife kept the cash and other valuables. On April 22, he and Ashok went to Shishir's house when he was still in the office. They easily gained entry into the house after which they overpowered Bindu and slit her throat with a knife and then strangled Om. They then fled with Rs. 4000 in cash and jewellery kept in the house.

At his instance, the police have arrested Ashok from Bhikam Singh Colony and recovered Rs. 1,100 in cash, four gold bangles, three gold rings, a copper ring, two gold ear-tops, a silver coin, a gold chain and some other ornaments. The knife reportedly used for the crime too has been recovered from Ashok.
