CHENNAI, APRIL 25. Eleven children hailing from Bihar and allegedly forced to work as bonded labourers in a snack unit at T. Nagar were rescued by the police today. According to the police, they conducted a raid on the premises of the unit on Subbaraya Chetty Thottam following a tip-off. The Mambalam police rescued the children, aged between 8 and 16. They would be sent back to their native place on Monday. The owner of the unit, identified as Prasad, was arrested and a search is on for his wife. According to the police, the couple used to employ the children for making snacks and selling them. If the youngsters failed to achieve the target sales, they were allegedly tortured.
