Reschedule exams.

Sir, — It has been announced that the Central Board of Secondary Education has postponed the All-India engineering entrance examination to May 20 and 21 in view of the elections. The State's common entrance test will be held between May 18 and 21. Thousands of students intend to take both the tests, but the overlapping dates will not allow them to do so. The authorities concerned should reschedule the examinations to safeguard the interests of the students.

Arrangements

Sir, — The President, in his enthusiasm to make Indian democracy a success, addressed the nation on the eve of the elections, exhorting the voters to turn out in large numbers to exercise their franchise. But even a fraction of this enthusiasm was not evident in the arrangements made for polling in Bangalore. No thought or imagination seems to have gone into the allotment of polling booths. Some of us had to walk more than a kilometre, although three or four booths were located en route. The names of several voters, who have the photo identity card, were missing in the voters' list. The pre-polling arrangements were unsatisfactory. Even the candidates took little interest in distributing the voters' slips, indicating the polling booths. However, the polling staff were courteous and helpful. The policemen also behaved decently.

Uneven road

Sir, — On taking a left turn near Sadashivanagar Police Station on the way to Mehkri Circle from BEL Road, vehicles experience a jolt owing to the presence of a slab above the road level.

This uneven portion covers half the road.

Are the authorities concerned waiting for some accident to take place before levelling the road?

Sir, — It will be of great help if the route boards of city buses are displayed both in English and Kannada.

The name-boards of buildings should also be displayed in both the languages.

This will be of immense help to visitors who are not familiar with the local language
