Sampath has the last laugh

HYDERABAD, APRIL 26. K. Sampath Kumar of Siddhardha High School won the title with a better progressive after finishing with four points along with three others in the 17th Sunday chess tournament, conducted by Chess Academy of Andhra Pradesh at Vijay Public School, here today.

Sampath, along with National players B.S.V. Ramana, J. Sai Kiran Babu and four-year-old Y. Sai Akshay, ended with four points but Sampath took the top spot with a progressive score of 14 as per the FIDE tie-breaking system.

Top results (fifth round): J. Sai Kiran Babu (4) bt K. Sampath Kumar (4); B.S.V. Ramana (4) bt K. Aditya Gowtham (3); Y. Sai Askshay (4) bt K. Koumudi (3); M. Hemanth (2.5) bt K. Sai (2); K. Vikram (1.5) bt V. Sri Harsha (1).

Age group prize winners:

Boys: Under-15: M. Anirudh; Under-13: B.S.V. Ramana; Under-11: J. Sai Kiran; Under-9: K. Adithya Gowtham; Under-7: Y. Sai Akshay.

Girls: Under-9: K. Yamini; Under-7: K. Koumudi.
