Paper leak: Parents' role under scrutiny

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, APRIL 26. Apart from mounting raids at several places in the Capital, the police are also concentrating on parents who could be involved in the Central Board of Secondary Education's All-India pre-medical test paper leak.

According to sources, some of the parents are suspected to be involved in the paper leak by way of informing others about the availability of question papers and thus helping the accused to garner more clients.

The police said efforts were on to verify the role of the parents of the students who were rounded up from the spot in the paper leak racket.

Meantime, the police team, which had been dispatched along with Parimal Thakur, the last person to be arrested, is trying to trace Manoj Thakur. However, the police were apprehensive that the local police may not be readily available as they may be deployed on election related duty elsewhere. The hunt is likely to be intensified in the next couple of days.

Police sources also claimed that Manoj, who is said to have been involved in the paper leak racket for the past six years, could also turn out to be a major player in the present case.

They claimed that he had to come to the Capital twice in the recent past. Once when he had to take the CD, which had the questions allegedly leaked by the CBSE employee Hemant Sharma, from Parimal, and then after he failed to access the content on account of faulty password. He came here and managed to access the contents of the CD.

On the other hand, the police also questioned the Honorary Director of Sachdeva New P.T. College, Omkar Singh Luthra. Sources said he was quizzed about the functioning of the institute and later let off. Meanwhile, several raids were conducted in the Capital, including Badarpur, Okhla, Prashant Vihar and Preet Vihar.

Beginning with Vikas Verma and Rakesh Verma a little more than two weeks ago, the police have now virtually come to the second string of accused in the case, which seems to be taking new twists with almost every new development. Vikas, Rakesh, Kuldeep Tyagi and Banni Gautam, who were arrested in the first phase of investigations, are now in judicial custody.

The main accused, Ranjit Verma, his brother, Satinder, Hemant, N.K. Thaplu, the administrative manager of Sachdeva P.T. College, and Parimal are now in police custody. Further investigations are on.
