Gursharan to officiate in Olympics

CHANDIGARH, APRIL 27. The International Badminton Federation (IBF) has nominated Sangrur District Sports Officer, Gursharan Singh, to officiate in the Athens Olympics in August this year. Gursharan is the only Indian umpire invited for the Olympics.

Punjab Badminton Association Secretary, Rajinder Singh, informed that he had received a communication to this effect from IBF Events Committee chairman, Charoen Wattanansin.

Gursharan has the rare distinction of umpiring in all major badminton competitions. These included Asian and Commonwealth Games, World championship, World Cup, Grand Prix finals and Thomas/Uber Cup. — UNI
