Suspected sorcerer murdered
According to the Nirmal DSP, Vidyasagar Rao, Alishetty Bakkanna, 37, of the same village had been suffering from ill-health for the last three years. He suspected Mallanna to be responsible for his bad health. He contended that he had shaken hands with Mallanna three years ago. His health began deteriorating because of the spell cast by Mallanna, he said. The Khanapur police registered a case. Bakkanna surrendered to the police on Tuesday morning.
Congress activist injured in clash dies
Bandh was observed in the town in protest against the alleged attack by ruling party workers resulting in the death of Gilanee and injuries to three others. CPI and the CPI(M) functionaries also participated in the bandh. The situation in Kandukur which was tense yesterday is under control.
Congress leader stabbed to death
According to the police, one Charankumar Reddy of Lakkireddipalle, who was in an inebriated condition, allegedly stabbed Lakshmi Reddy thrice and fled. The Congressman succumbed on way to Rayachoti Government hospital. The Rayachoti Urban police registered a case. The former Rayachoti MLA, M. Narayana Reddy, the Sambepalle mandal president, M. Narsa Reddy, and the Congress leaders, S. Jayachandra Reddy, S. Nagi Reddy, M. Ramprasad Reddy and Jayarami Reddy condoled the death.
TDP, Congress activists go on rampage
Three Congressmen, Nagi Reddy, Balaramudu and Balaraju Yadav, suffered injuries when TDP men allegedly attacked the former with stones, according to the police. Subsequently, Congressmen ransacked the TDP office, damaged a liquor shop belonging to a TDP activist and set his jeep and two scooters on fire. The Kondapuram sub-inspector, Ravi Kumar, registered cases.
Yudhvir Foundation award for poet
Announcing the decision here on Tuesday, Narendra Luther, Chairman of the Yudhvir Foundation, said that well-known art historian, Jagdish Mittal, would present the award and preside over the function.
Mr. Rai has participated in several All India art exhibitions, as well as the National Exhibition of Art in New Delhi and been presented various awards for his paintings. Mr. Rai is also an accomplished Sitar player and presently teaches Art in Keshav Memorial Boys High School in the city. The Foundation was set up to commemorate the ideas and work of late Yudhvir, the founding editor of Hindi Milap. It honours those who have contributed to national integration and social service through its annual award which carries citation and a cash award of Rs. 25,000. The award was presented to Pandit Jasraj last year.
Annamacharya fete from May 5
Annamacharya, a Telugu composer who lived in the 15th century during the reign of Saluva Narasimharaya of the Vijayanagara dynasty, composed 32,000 songs, but only 12,000 are available. After being preserved for over four centuries in Sankeerthana Bhandara, they were transferred to the TTD. A procession of the idol of Annamayya and the deity of Lord Venkateswara will be taken from TTD administrative building to Annamacharya Kalamandiram here on the first day.

Rain in north coastal Andhra
Chodavaram recorded a rainfall of 3 cm, Anakapalli 2 cm and Yellamanchili, Paderu and Holagunda 1 cm each. The highest day temperature during the 24-hour period ending this morning was recorded by Nizamabad at 42 degrees C. According to a forecast valid for Wednesday, there will be light to moderate rain at a few places in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts and isolated rain in Telangana and Rayalaseema.

TRS foundation day celebrated
on Tuesday. The district-level leaders left for Hyderabad to attend the celebrations in the capital. Many activists made a beeline for the BGR Gardens function hall for a luncheon, hosted by the Adilabad TRS unit led by A. Santosh Reddy. Speaking to the gathering, Mr. Santosh Reddy expressed hope that TRS candidates would win in four Assembly and Adilabad Lok Sabha seat. TRS has fielded candidates at Mudhole, Boath (ST), Khanapur (ST) and Asifabad (SC) Assembly segments. The Congress candidates would also emerge victorious, he added. G. Karunakar Reddy, election agent to TRS lok Sabha candidate T. Madhusudan Reddy, attributed the party's good show to a wave in favour of TRS.
