Repolling sought in Ghazipur seat
By Our Special Correspondent
LUCKNOW,
APRIL 27.
The Bharatiya Janata Party today demanded repolling in Ghazipur Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh where two party workers were killed and five injured in separate incidents while polling was under way on Monday.
A memorandum submitted by the State BJP leaders to the Chief Electoral Officer, Vijay Sharma, alleged that the incidents were pre-planned by the independent MLA, Mukhtar Ansari, brother of the Samajwadi Party candidate from the constituency, Afzal Ansari, to capture booths and rig elections. It also alleged that the MLA, who is a TADA convict, terrorised voters firing shots from his AK-47 rifle killing the two BJP workers.
"The district police and local administration had fully connived with the gang of Mukhtar Ansari and took no action to prevent his activities even after written complaints had been made," the State BJP leader, Kalraj Mishra, told newspersons after submitting the memorandum. He pointed out that the matter had been brought to the notice of the Chief Election Commissioner also during his last visit but in vain.
