Dar unhurt in militant attack

SRINAGAR,
APRIL 27.
The former Union Minister of State for Home, Mohammad Maqbool Dar, escaped unhurt in a militant attack today in which two policemen were injured. In another grenade attack in Pampore, 15 persons, including two policemen, were injured.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kashmir zone, K. Rajindra Kumar, said that Mr. Dar was on his way to the Wachi area in Pulwama district when militants threw a grenade and fired upon him. His escort vehicle had developed a problem and the militants, taking advantage of it, hurled a grenade which exploded and two policemen and a civilian were injuried. But Mr. Dar escaped unhurt as his vehicle was bullet proof.
Mr. Dar, who was a Minister in the United Front Government, had joined the National Conference but quit the party and was contesting the elections now in Anantnag as an Independent.
In Pampore town in the same district, militants hurled a grenade at a CRPF vehicle. It exploded on the road injuring 15 persons. Two of them were a police sub-inspector and a constable.
The Deputy Commandant of the Special Services Bureau, C.C. Pathak, who was injured in an attack on the Congress headquarters here on Friday died of injuries in hospital today.
