NEW DELHI, APRIL 27. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today charge sheeted a senior Delhi Police official on charges of possessing assets worth more than Rs 12 lakh disproportionate to his known sources of income. Filing a chargesheet in the court of Special Judge H.P. Sharma, the CBI alleged that Deputy Commissioner of Police (Communication), Narendra Dev Sharma, had amassed property worth Rs 12,59,661 including two houses in Moti Nagar and Noida; and a plot in Delhi. Sharma had joined as Radio Technician in 1974 and presently posted as Assitant Director, Directorate of Coordination, Police Wireless at Lodhi Road in the capital. At the beginning of the check period on April 1, 1996, Sharma had property worth Rs 1,47,981. By the end of November 2001 he had property worth Rs 28,45,991. The CBI sleuths had raided the residential and official premises of Sharma on November 12, 2001. The official income of Sharma during the check period was Rs 2,22,1633. After deducting the expenditure during the period, the CBI calculated the disproportionate assets to be worth more than Rs 12,59,661. Sharma has been chargesheeted under section 13(1)(e), 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.-- UNI
