NEW DELHI, APRIL 27. The Licensing Department of the Delhi police has decided to send reminders to arms licence holders a month prior to the expiry so that they get the renewal done without defaulting. In course of time, the reminders would be sent as birthday greetings as the dates of renewal are being synchronised with the birth dates of the licencees. The decision to send reminders was taken after a study carried out by the department last year revealed that nearly 30 per cent of the licensees had failed to get their licences renewed on the prescribed date. An arms license should be renewed after every three years. The licensee is expected to come with his residence proof as well as the weapon for inspection and renewal by the Licensing Department. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Licensing), Arun Kampani, the scheme would come into effect by next month. "Every licensee will get a reminder in the form of a greeting a month before the expiry of his license period so that he does not default and become liable for action for not possessing arms without valid licence," said Mr. Kampani. In the course of time, the Department would be coming up with another feature in the present scheme. "We are in the process of coinciding the renewal dates of the arms licensees with their birth dates. Thus, a few days before their birthdays the licensees will get a birthday greeting from us reminding them of the renewal date," said the DCP. Synchronisation of birth dates and renewal dates has been done in at least 70 per cent cases. After completion of the exercise for the remaining 30 per cent, the scheme would be put in place, he added.
