Election Commission orders repoll in 15 stations

BANGALORE, APRIL 27. The Election Commission today ordered repolling in 15 polling stations in four Lok Sabha constituencies and adjourned polling in two polling booths in another Lok Sabha constituency that went to the polls on Monday. The repolling and adjourned polling will be held on Wednesday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

H.C. Nagendra, Joint Chief Electoral Officer, said repolling had been ordered in 12 polling stations in the Chamarajnagar Lok Sabha Constituency and one polling station each in Shimoga, Dharwad North, and Belgaum Lok Sabha constituencies. Adjourned polling had been ordered in two booths in the Dharwad South Lok Sabha Constituency. Malfunctioning or damage caused to the electronic voting machines (EVMs) by miscreants were the reasons for ordering the repoll and adjourned polling in the 17 booths, he said.

Repolling will be held for the Bannur Assembly Constituency, which is a segment of the Chamarajanagar parliamentary constituency at Kethupura (booth nos. 65 and 66), Madigalli (8 and 9), B. Bettahalli (57), Megalakoppalu (58), Bannur (30, 31, and 32), Hunasagalli (7), and Makanahalli (28 and 29).

Repolling in the Tirthahalli Assembly Constituency will be held at one booth Konegudde (no. 21) which is a segment of the Shimoga parliamentary constituency.

Adjourned polling will be for the Haveri Assembly segment of the Dharwad South Lok Sabha Constituency at two booths at Bankapur (139 and 142); repolling in booth no. 48 (Mathiparapa Circle) in the Dharwad North Lok Sabha Constituency, and repolling in the Bagewadi Assembly segment at Modaga (91) of the Belgaum Lok Sabha Constituency.

Sixty-two per cent of the 16 million electorate exercised its franchise in the elections held for 13 Lok Sabha and 104 Assembly constituencies, according to the election authorities.

The average percentage of voting in the two phases of elections held to the 28 Lok Sabha and 224 Assembly constituencies in the State was 64.79. In the second phase of elections held on Monday, 69.01 per cent of voters exercised their franchise.

The Lok Sabha segment-wise voting percentage in the second phase of elections is as follows: Mangalore (67.18), Udupi (68.37), Hassan (70.43), Chikmagalur (72.87), Shimoga (70.46), Kanara (68.91), Dharwad South (71.86), Dharwad North (64.72), Belgaum (65.90), Chikkodi (70.67), Mandya (71.40), Mysore (64.73), and Chamarajanagar (71.32), according to Mr. Nagendra.
