VIRUDHUNAGAR, APRIL 27. Around 500 villagers of Palavantham blocked the Virudhunagar- Aruppukottai road this evening demanding action against a local Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader, following a fatal road accident. According to the police, the agitators claimed that Kalimuthu (27) was run over by a vehicle, just a few minutes before the leader crossed the accident spot. Kalimuthu, along with Pandi (30), was going on a bicycle when the car hit them, killing the former. Both of them, accused in a narcotic case, were returning home after signing the register at the Virudhunagar (East) police station. The villagers were pacified by the police, when they picketed the road in the morning. However, they came back to the road in the evening, demanding immediate action. Traffic on the road was hit for two hours. The Virudhunagar Deputy Superintendent of Police, R. Sivakumar, pacified the crowd, saying a case had been registered and the accused would be booked soon.
