Srikakulam
By Our Staff Reporter
SRIKAKULAM, APRIL 27. The District Collector, K. Vijayanand, today directed officials to complete work on the expansion of the Palakonda road in Srikakulam town "on a war-footing.'' The work began in December and is slated for completion by February. However, it got delayed and at one point of time the Municipal Chairperson, P. Jayanti, blamed the Public Health Department officials for the slow pace of work. Mr Vijayanand, who reviewed the progress with the Public Health and Transco officials, also wanted the central-lighting work to be taken up. The Public Health officials said construction of drains on either side was completed. The Transco officials said power supply would be fully restored on one side by May 5 and on the other side by May 15. Poles could not be erected because of delay in demolition of upper portions of some buildings. A WBM road would be laid by the month-end, officials said. The Collector, who reviewed works in the other municipalities, wanted high-mast lighting work to be taken up with the City Challenge fund at Ichhapuram also. The Transco SE, Suryanarayana, and the Srikakulam municipal commissioner, S. Govinda Swamy, also participated. At a separate meeting with Transco and Rural Water Supply officials, Mr. Vijayanand directed that uninterrupted power supply be ensured to the protected water supply schemes in the district. Energisation of eight schemes completed in the Palasa RWS division must be done on a priority basis, he said.
