Education department official held
By Our Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI,
APRIL 27.
A senior Education Department official of Rajasthan, whose daughter was among 13 students rounded up on April 10 after the Central Board of Secondary Education pre-medical test paper leak was detected, has been arrested for allegedly helping one of the accused garner more clients.
The District Education Officer, Laxmi Sharma, was arrested late last night following a disclosure by Banni Singh Gautam, one of the accused in the case. She has been remanded to judicial custody till May 8.
According to police, Ms. Sharma was among the first to contact Banni Singh after he issued advertisements in a newspaper in Rajasthan.
However, Banni Singh asked her to wait, as it was too early to make any commitment. After the gang was sure that the pre-medical test papers had been leaked, Banni Singh contacted Ms. Sharma and told her that she could avail of the question papers. However, when Banni Singh mentioned the price of the question papers Rs. 4 lakhs Ms. Sharma tried to negotiate by promising to get him more candidates. Banni Singh told her that he would charge Rs. 4 lakhs and she could take whatever extra she made by way of commission. Ms. Sharma allegedly agreed to the condition and brought four students whose parents were ready to buy the question papers.
