Case registered against three doctors

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, APRIL 27. The Panjagutta police have registered a criminal case against three doctors following a complaint lodged by relatives N. Mukunda Reddy (23), who died at a private hospital here after prolonged illness.

Mukunda Reddy's mother, Anishamma, of Zaheerabad in Medak district, in her complaint, charged that a doctor of the Vasavi Hospital at Khairatabad, Milind Kondawar, and two doctors of the Gajanana Hospital in Zaheerabad -- Ajay and Naval Kishore were responsible for her son's death.

Mukunda Reddy was working as a computer operator with a private firm at Panjagutta. He was admitted to the Gajanana Hospital in February as he complained of stomach ache and vomited frequently. The hospital called in Dr. Milind from Hyderabad and performed a surgery on Mukunda Reddy in February.

However, he did not recover and his health deteriorated, Anishamma alleged. On March 3, Mukunda Reddy was admitted in the Vasavi Hospital reportedly on the advise of Dr. Milind, who performed an appendicitis surgery. On March 18, they shifted him to the Vivekananda Hospital at Begumpet, where he died while undergoing treatment on Tuesday. Mukunda Reddy was the only son of Anishamma. She accused the three doctors of gross negligence. "Whenever we complained to the doctors that he was not recovering, they brushed aside our feelings," Anishamma charged. A case was booked against the three doctors under section 304-A (rash and negligent act) of the IPC.

A panel of forensic doctors of the Osmania Hospital conducted autopsy. "We're asking the three hospitals to submit medical records relating to the treatment given and also writing to the Medical Council of India for its opinion as to whether there was any negligence on the part of doctors," the Panjagutta SI, Shiva Maruthi, said.
