Partly cloudy day likely

NEW DELHI APRIL 27. The Capital will wake up to a partly cloudy sky with possibility of thundery development in some areas on Wednesday, the weatherman has said. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 38 degrees Celsius.

The maximum temperature recorded at Safdarjung on Tuesday was 37.1 degrees Celsius while the minimum was 24.6 degrees Celsius. At Palam, the maximum temperature was 38.2 degrees Celsius and minimum was 25.3 degrees Celsius.

While the maximum and minimum relative humidity at Safdarjung was 57 per cent and 32 per cent respectively, the maximum and minimum relative humidity at Palam was 60 per cent and 22 per cent respectively.

Arrested

NEW DELHI APRIL 27. Nine people allegedly involved in cases of dacoity and robbery were arrested from near Wazirabad Road following an encounter with the Operations Cell of North-East Delhi police on Monday.

According to the police, Constable Pradeep received a tip-off that some criminals would gather near a pipeline along Wazirabad Road. He passed on the information to his superiors, following which an Operation Cell team reached there and on spotting the suspects, asked them to surrender.

However, the culprits opened fire. The police fired in retaliation and overpowered nine of the accused. Three country-made firearm, seven live cartridges and five knives were recovered from their possession.

Suicide

NEW DELHI APRIL 27. A Delhi Police constable allegedly shot himself while on picket duty at Moti Nagar in West Delhi today.

According to the police, Constable Mahavir Singh, posted with the Moti Nagar police station and deployed at the Bali Nagar picket in Moti Nagar, was on duty along with Head Constable Mahinder Singh. Around 7 p.m., he went into the beat box where a self-loading rifle was kept. He picked up the rifle and shot himself twice, in his left eye and left temple. Mahinder rushed him to hospital where he died around 8 p.m.

Nabbed

NEW DELHI APRIL 27. Two alleged big-time drug traffickers from Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh, which is understood be a hub of heroin manufacturing and sale, have been arrested by the Narcotics Branch of the Delhi police at Connaught Place here. The police claim to have recovered 5 kg heroin from their possession.

Acting on a tip-off that a heroin consignment would exchange hands near Hanuman Mandir of Connaught Place, the police laid a trap and arrested two persons carrying the drug consignment. During interrogation, they identified himself as Prem Jain and Bhairo Singh, both residents of Mandsaur.
