BANGALORE, APRIL 27. The Bangalore city police claimed to have solved Saturday's abduction of a businessman, who runs Agragami School in Yelahanka New Town, by arresting one of the accused. Seven members of a gang carrying weapons stopped H.R. Satishchandra, who was going to the school in a van, and kidnapped him. The incident occurred near Pavani Apartment around 9.30 a.m. They demanded Rs. 50 lakh from him but agreed to accept Rs. 2 lakh. They threatened to kill him and his family members if the money was not delivered to them. However, they released Mr. Satishcandra after taking from him Rs. 30,000 in cash, and a gold bracelet and a diamond ring, together worth Rs. 24,000. On Sunday, the police set a trap for the kidnappers by telling them that a suitcase with money would be handed over to them at the K.R. Puram van stand. They asked Vishwanath, Mr. Satishchandra's driver, to wait with a suitcase at the place. When Narendar (20) of Rayapur taluk in Pali district of Rajasthan came to pick up the suitcase, he was arrested, according to the police. They said that a search was on for the other accused. Two cases of suicide: A man, who was to marry in a few days, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his house on Rajajinagar 6th Main, 8th Cross, on Monday. He was identified as Suresh (26). Suresh and his brother, Ramesh, had returned home after distributing wedding invitation cards. He went out again, and when he did not return for long, Mr. Ramesh and other members of his family searched for him. They found his body hanging from a fan in his room upstairs. Suresh was suffering from chronic headache and treatment at different hospitals was of no avail. Suresh's wedding had been fixed for May 1, according to the Magadi Road police. A case has been registered. Venkatesh (55) of Shrinkanahalli near Srinagar in the Hanumanthnagar police limits reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his house this morning. Venkatesh, who was a financier, had reportedly suffered huge losses.
`Surrenders': A 35-year-old construction labourer reportedly surrendered to the Wilson Garden police on Monday night after allegedly murdering his wife. The police said Manjunath of 3rd Stage, Banashankari, took his wife, Sujatha (37), to an isolated place near Vaderahalli village in Talaghatpura police station limits on Sunday night, and allegedly slit her throat. They said he allegedly murdered Sujatha, who has two daughters, as he suspected that she was unfaithful to him. The Wilson Garden police have handed over Manjunath to the Talghatapura police.
