Repolling in 99 booths peaceful in State

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, APRIL 28. Repolling was held in 99 polling stations in 15 parliamentary constituencies in the State today amid stray incidents of clashes in different places. Despite the polling being held in 14 booths in the sensitive areas of Rompicherla and Nagasamudram in Narasaraopet and Penukonda Assembly segments, which witnessed violence on the first day, the exercise was peaceful.

The number of polling stations marked for repoll went up to 99 after the Election Commission added five more to the list, all from Dhone in Kurnool constituency, late last night following a `strong recommendation' by the Central observer concerned.

With the exclusion of 15 booths, 68 per cent votes were cast in the repoll.

Kannathota in East Godavari district accounted for 90 per cent. The overall percentage in 99 booths reached 19 per cent by 9 a.m. itself, reaching 40 by 11 a.m. and 54.7 by 3 p.m.

Smoke bombs were hurled near the polling stations at Gogulupadu in the Narsaraopet constituency, near Rompicherla, and Kottalauru in the Vinukonda constituency, but polling was not disrupted.
