THANJAVUR, APRIL 28 . The Thanjavur Collector and Returning Officer for the Thanjavur Lok Sabha constituency, S. Kosalaraman, has appealed to the poll officials to be fair in conducting the elections. He was speaking at a training programme held here on Tuesday, for the officials drafted for election duty. He said 7,452 Central and State Governments employees would be involved in poll duty in the district. Of these, 4,128 would go to other districts, while 3, 324 would be deployed in Thanjavur district. They were trained in operating Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and in the works to be done at the polling booths. Two more training sessions would be held on May 2 and 6 in 10 Assembly segments. The Collector said that the voter list given to the poll officials and the political parties would be identical. The District Revenue Officer (DRO), Rajaraman, Lakshmi, Personal Assistance to the Collector (Elections), the Revenue Divisional Officer, Munusamy, and the Tahsildhar, Ramu, were present.
Tiruvarur
Training sessions were conducted for the Assistant Returning Officers and other poll officials at Tiruvarur today. The Collector, G.Sundaramurthy, who is also Returning Officer for the Nagapattinam constituency, inspected the training held at the GRM School and the V.S.Boys Higher Secondary School. The classes were also held at Kodavasal, Thiruthuraipoondi, Mannargudi, Koradachery and Nannilam.
Karur
The Collector, P. Annamalai, also Returning Officer of the Karur constituency, has placed under suspension three women government servants for their refusal to accept poll duty. An official release said Umasankari, extension officer (cooperative), Aravakurichi panchayat union office, Vjayarani, BT Assistant, Vivekananda Higher Secondary School, Pasupathipalayam, and S. Lakshmi, Superintendent, District Elementary Education Office, Karur, did not receive the duty orders and went on leave. Action was initiated against them under the People's Representation Act, 1951.
