BANGALORE, APRIL 28. The Southern Telecom Region Bangalore was presented with the ISO 9001-2000 certificate by the Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd., V.P. Sinha, at a function here today. The internal audits, which preceded the certification, found that Bangalore ensured high quality in the performance of long-distance circuits. Its efficiency in maintenance of the medium under its control was also of a very high order. The audits were done on March 31. The certificate was awarded to K. Sudhakar, General Manager (Maintenance) in the Bangalore office, which is responsible for the maintenance of long distance network in Karnataka, Kerala, and Lakshadweep. It maintains different transmission media like optical fibre cable, satellite and microwave which carry high quality long distance speech, 2 mb data circuits of software companies, commercial banks, newspaper industries, and cellular service providers. Bangalore maintains 14,881 km. of OFC, 4,167 km. of digital microwave systems in Karnataka, and 5031 km of OFC, 1,462 km of digital microwave systems in Kerala and Lakshadweep covering 226 OFC-MW-SAT stations.
