RAICHUR, APRIL 28. Lucose Vallattharai, Secretary in-charge of Raichur district, has instructed the officials concerned to take steps to display information pertaining to drought relief works taken up in villages on the notice board of the gram panchayats. Presiding over a review meeting of scarcity works taken up in the district, he said it was mandatory to maintain a register of the people employed and the wages given to them. He called upon the officials to ensure that there were no irregularities in the implementation of the drought relief works. Paucity of funds would not be allowed to come in the way of taking up drinking water schemes. The Deputy Commissioner, G.N. Nayak, said Rs. 2 crore of the Rs. 2.5 crore allotted to the district for implementing drinking water schemes had been spent. Water was being supplied through tankers to five villages and Manvi and Mudgal towns, he said and added that a helpline had been set up in all the taluk panchayats to record complaints related to drinking water scarcity. Every gram panchayat had been allocated Rs. 10,000 to mitigate water crisis in the villages coming under them and all tahasildars had been given Rs. 7 lakh for the purpose. He said every taluk panchayat had got Rs. 11 lakh for repair of borewells. There was no scarcity of water in Raichur, Sindhanoor, and Lingsugur, he added. S.M. Gadad, Joint Director of Agriculture, said there was sufficient stock of seeds in the Raitha Samparka Kendras in the district.
