Centre-NSCN(K) ceasefire extended

NEW DELHI, APRIL 28. The ceasefire between the Centre and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Khaplang faction) has been extended for another year, an official statement said.

This is the fourth consecutive year the ceasefire is being brought into force. The decision to extend the ceasefire, which expired today, was taken at a meeting between a delegation of the NSCN(K) and senior officials of the Home Ministry on April 23 when the two sides discussed strict maintenance of the ground rules for the ceasefire.

The Centre is already involved in a dialogue with the NSCN (Isak-Muivah) group. The next round of the talks with the NSCN (I-M) will be held after the formation of a new government. However, there was no immediate possibility of holding a dialogue with the Khaplang faction as its leader was in Myanmar, sources said.

The NSCN(K) delegation, which included members of the Ceasefire Monitoring Board, has expressed eagerness to continue the peace process and the ceasefire.

They described the decision as a step forward in bringing peace and stability in the region. — UNI
