HYDERABAD, APRIL 28. The plea of the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, that he should be allowed to take steps to mitigate the hardship of people on account of hailstorm and drought, has been referred to the Election Commission. When the propriety of the `caretaker' Chief Minister not being allowed to `take care' of the emergency situation was raised at a press conference here on Wednesday, the Additional Chief Electoral officer, Ajay Sawhney, said that they had briefed the Election Commission on this and promised to come out with a clear stand by Thursday evening quoting the rule position. The Additional CEO, however, offered no comments to queries relating to the Chief Minister's reported adverse remarks against the Commission's consultant, K. J. Rao, and the State election officials holding them responsible for `deletion' names from electoral rolls and the malfunctioning of EVMs.
