HYDERABAD, APRIL 28. The Congress has demanded immediate relief to the families hit by hailstorm in Telangana districts on April 23. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, T. Jeevan Reddy, spokesperson of the APCC, Kodanda Reddy, former CLP secretary and Mohd. Shabbir Ali, former MLA, said that despite their representation to the Chief Secretary on Tuesday, the official machinery had not moved into action. Immediate relief must be extended to the families whose houses had been destroyed by hailstorm, they said. They said power and drinking water supply should be restored immediately and crop insurance paid to the affected farmers. They refused to project Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy as the Chief Minister candidate in the event of the party coming back to power in the State stating that it was the prerogative of party high command.
TRS pleads ryots' case
The Telangana Rashtra Samiti has demanded waiver of electricity bills and agricultural loan payment for farmers affected by hailstorm on April 23 and 24. In a letter to the Relief Commissioner of Natural Calamities, the TRS has also demanded sanction of further loans to farmers for rehabilitation and payment of compensation of Rs. 15,000 for an acre of paddy and Rs. 25,000 for an acre of mango groves. It has asked the Relief Commissioner to direct district collectors to enquire and submit details of the affected areas for payment of compensation to farmers who have suffered damage to their houses, paddy crops and orchards.
