TIRUNELVELI, APRIL 28. Coming down heavily on the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president, M. Karunanidhi, for equating the Democratic Progressive Alliance with the combine formed by C.N. Annadurai to defeat the Congress, the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary and Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, said the great leaders, who were present in the alliance, should not be compared with those of DPA parties. Addressing a public meeting at Tenkasi last night, Ms. Jayalalithaa recalled that Annadurai, in an attempt to put an end to the Congress rule in Tamil Nadu, joined hands with Rajaji, Quaid-e-Millet and Communist leader P. Ramamurthy and formed the formidable alliance, which at no point could not be compared with Mr. Karunanidhi's DPA. ``While the alliance formed by Annadurai effectively sealed the political fortunes of the Congress in the State, Mr. Karunanidhi was trying to infuse fresh blood into the national party, which is almost dead. This is nothing but sheer betrayal of Annadurai and his ideals.'' Ms. Jayalalithaa also criticised the DMK, the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Pattali Makkal Katchi for ``sacrificing the rights of the delta farmers'' in the Cauvery dispute though they were the part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre. After the meeting, the Chief Minister, on her way to Tirunelveli, addressed the gathering at Paavoorchathram, Alangulam and Seethaparpanallur. After a day's rest, she will continue her campaign from Tirunelveli on April 29. Meanwhile, the police have arrested Soosaiyappan (38) of Eamenkulam on charges of throwing a stone at the Chief Minister's van when she was campaigning at Vasudevanallur last evening.
