KOLLAM, APRIL 28. For the May 10 elections to the Lok Sabha, there will be 1,895 polling stations in the district. Around 1,946 electronic voting machines will be used and 7,480 persons have been deputed on election duty. The figure of polling stations in the district is less by 333 compared to the 1999 elections. Considering the drop in the number of voters this time and the use of voting machines, the Election Commission had directed restructuring the polling stations and this had resulted in the reduction in the number of polling stations, the district election officer, Rajan Khobragade, informed. From the 1,895 polling stations, 895 will be in the Adoor constituency and 1,000 in Kollam. There are 15 polling stations in the district having more than 1,500 voters each. The polling station having the highest number of voters, 1,597, is at polling booth number 97 at the Milad-e-Sherief School in the Kollam Assembly segment of the constituency. The station having the lowest number of voters, 40, is station 24 at the Avanipara Girijan colony under the Adoor Assembly segment. Within the district, 131 polling stations have been identified as sensitive. The Eravipuram Assembly segment has the highest number of polling stations, 169. The Adoor Assembly segment has the lowest, 97.
