Muslims & the BJP

Sir, — This refers to the article, "Vajpayee, Muslims and the BJP" (April 28). The Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee's newfound concern for Muslims is unconvincing. If there is any particular section that has suffered under the NDA Government, it is the Muslim community. No Muslim can forget Ayodhya and Gujarat. Mr. Vajpayee has for long remained a silent observer of the atrocities of the Sangh Parivar. Even now, he is reluctant to act against the Narendra Modi Government.

Sir, — By refusing even to reprimand, leave alone remove Mr. Modi from office, the Prime Minister has shown that when push comes to shove, he is a swayamsevak at heart. No fatwa or Himayat committee can earn him the trust of Muslims at large, unless he performs his raj dharma of reining in the hate-mongers in the BJP.

S. Raghuram,
New Delhi

Sir, — Mr. Vajpayee is the trump card of the Sangh Parivar. The Parivar has made good use of Mr. Vajpayee who pretends to be different from other hardcore swayamsevaks. He has mastered the game of hunting with the hounds and running with the hare.

Kannur, Kerala
