Kumbakonam April 29. B. D. Acharya, Head, Department of Science and Technology, Union Government, has stressed the need for hunting for mathematical talent of youngsters and nurturing it. Speaking at the 84th remembrance day of the mathematical wizard, Srinivasa Ramanujan, at the Srinivasa Ramanujan Centre of the Shanmugha Arts Science Technology and Research Academy (SASTRA)-Deemed University at Kumbakonam on Monday, Dr. Acharya said that in this aspect, the psychology or the mindset of the individual and the environment in which he had been brought up must be considered in an equal measure. Dr. Acharya emphasised the need for every individual to learn a lot and that research study should not be just for the sake of research alone. On the other hand, every research study should address the social needs and should contemplate how far it should be useful for the public at large. He said dedication should be uppermost in the minds of those who took up research work and the goal should be societal needs without any expectation of any kind of reward. R. Sethuraman, Vice-Chancellor, SASTRA, participated in the function.
