TDP activist held under POTA

By Our Staff Reporter

KARIMNAGAR, APRIL 29. The Karimnagar police have arrested a former Telugu Dedam Party sarpanch of Jammikunta village, P. Mallaiah, a close follower of the Minister for Transport, M. Damodar Reddy, and registered a case under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) for allegedly having links with outlawed People's War naxalites.

Talking to mediapersons here today, the Superintendent of Police, R. S. Praveen Kumar, said that Mr. Mallaiah had maintained `links' with the People's War dalam commander, Pochamallu, and other naxalites and provided them with food, shelter and information.

The former sarpanch and the Jammikunta Agricultural Market Committee chairman, P. Satyanarayana Rao, both TDP activists, were good friends and had the alleged support of naxalites for their activities.

The SP said that they were yet to establish Mr. Rao's links with naxalites. This is the third POTA case registered in Karimnagar district.
