THENI, APRIL 29. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) State general secretary, N. Varadarajan, today said the party would not any time insist on using Article 356 for dismissal of a State Government. He was talking to mediapersons here. Responding to a question whether the CPI(M), like the Pattali Makkal Katchi, would insist on the Centre dismissing the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Government, said the party had been against using Article 356 and it stuck to its stand. Violations of election code by the ruling party in Tamil Nadu were rampant. Suppression and unbridled attack on members of Opposition parties continued without restrictions. There was every possibility of the AIADMK and the Bharatiya Janata Party misusing official machinery during elections. The Election Commission should take special measures in Tamil Nadu for conduct of free and fair polls. It should monitor deployment of police force at polling stations, as we received information that the AIADMK planned to deploy personnel loyal to it. If the Congress came to power, the CPI(M) would demand that the liberalisation process be slowed down and steps be taken to protect the interests of common man.
