CHANDIGARH, APRIL 29 . The upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh received fresh snowfall today while plains in the region were lashed by another spell of rains, causing mercury to fall by several degrees. Kunzalwan in Jammu and Kashmir received three cm of fresh snow and Patsio in Himachal four cm, Met offfice sources here said. In J and K, Srinagar (16.9 mm), Jammu (1 mm), Gulmarg (28mm), Dras (8.6 mm), Sonmarg (8.8 mm) and Banihal Top (14 mm) were lashed by rains while in Himachal, Shimla (10.3 mm), Manali (5 mm), Sundernagar (14 mm), Una (12 mm), Pandoh (7.5 mm), Rampur (14.5 mm), Kasol (9 mm), Kahu (7 mm), Berthin (8.2 mm), Sujanpur Thira (4.7 mm), Nadaun (2.5 mm), Guler (1.5 mm), Nagrota Surien (2.7 mm) and Dhundi (5 mm) received rains. Chandigarh had an overcast sky and dark clouds reduced visibility considerably around noon. Sharp showers brought down the temperature and the city residents enjoyed a pleasant day. Patiala, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Nangal Dam area, Ropar, Ambala, Kurukshetra and Kalka were among some of the towns in Punjab and Haryana to receive light rains. -- PTI
